iPhone X

Not 1 but 2 new iPhones – Apple iPhone X and Apple iPhone 8

At the Apple keynote yesterday (Tuesday 12th September) they announced not 1, but 2 new iPhones, along with some updates to the Apple TV and Apple Watch series 3.

What do you think? Will you be getting the iPhone X or iPhone 8?

My initial thoughts seeing the new product:

  • Wow £300 more for the iPhone X ? is it really worth it. That screen does look beautiful though, is the OLED bright enough outdoors?
  • With no 128GB option available looks like Apple are forcing people to buy the more expensive 256GB model, as I know I would use 64GB in about a month?
  • Glass back looks cool, but I think a cover will stop all the finger prints.
  • Face ID – how easy is it to use, Apple stated instead of 1 to 50,000 for Touch ID, chance of someone being able to unlock the phone with a similar face was 1 to 1,000,000 so sounds more secure. But how easy is it to use in practice, I noticed in the actual keynote demo Craig Federighi face failed to open first phone, he moved to a backup phone.
  • 4k TV is great on the new apple TV – time to upgrade the TV.
  • Apple Watch update to use mobile/cellular through software sim sound great

iPhone 8 and 8 Plus

Now this is really just a bump in the specs of the current iPhone 7. (so really this is just an iPhone 7S)

Whats new:

  • Near identical design to iPhone 7.
  • Glass back to support Qi wireless charging.
  • True tone display, same sizes and resolutions as current iPhone 7.
  • New A11 bionic chip, and slightly updated 12MP cameras.
  • New Rose gold (although to me looks more like copper).

Prices start at £699 for 64GB iPhone 8 and go up to £949 for 256GB iPhone 8 Plus

Available for order 15.09 – shipping 22.09
